READY TO PLACE!

As some of you know, I have been wanted to apply for camp america for around 2 years now. When applications opened on September 1st, I was bursting with excitement and I logged onto the camp america site to see if I could apply early and it had opened on August 31st so I got to start my application even early!

I spent the next few hours going through the application, filling out all of the various forms and information and spent a lot of time gettind excited.Once I had filled out enough information, I had to pick my interviewer, the closest person to me was a lady about 1 hour and a half from my house ( as I live in quite a rural area) and she seemed lovely so I picked her. I contacted her and requested her for my interview, she replied and gave me lots of things to improve on my application and we also sorted an interview date, I was so excited, EEK!

My interview date was going to be the 5th of October 2014.

Before my interview, there were a few things I had to get done. I had to complete my DBS form, ready to then get verified with all of my identity information at my interview. I also needed to upload 2 activity photos and my references. I looked through my application and edited it to make it the best it could be and I spent a lot of time researching camps and getting myself super excited.

A few days before my interview, I created a folder with all of my documents in it. I had to make sure I took proof of my identity in order for my interview to start and also had to print out my application and get all of the relevant documents and references needed.

Then, it became the day of the interview, I got up early and drove up with my mum, it was great fun and I was slightly nervous, but I'd read so many reviews telling me how relaxed the whole interview process was so that it made me feel a lot calmer.

My interview went extremely well and we went through my whole application and what I could improve to make it look the best for when camp director's view my application. My interviewer also suggested that I should apply for the IYLA Scheme  ( I will do another post all about this) and said my skills would be great for this, we discussed what it involved and I agreed that it looked perfect for me and my skills!

The next day, I went onto my camp america and I got an email saying "Congratulation's, you have passed your interview!" I was over the moon and burst with energy from this. I then continued to go through all of the suggestions on my application and added all of the extra bit's. I had to get all of my amendments done by the 14th of October. Also, I contacted the IYLA Scheme and found out more information and decided it was definitely for me, I then had to wait to get registered for my place.

On the 14th October 2014,  also got conformation that I was registered for the IYLA Scheme and I had got a place!

Once I had got all of my application completed, I then had to pay the next assessment fee and wait. I continually checked my email over the next couple of days as I had to do a few things for the application and then on the 17th October 2014, my application was processing!!!

Over the next few days, I had to do things that were getting emailed to me in order to process my application and I was just getting so excited to see what was going to happen next and would check my camp america application every day for updates. I was also added to the IYLA facebook group to get all of the girls chatting, I was the first member to be added and every day since, more people are being added, more girls are joining and there is now currently 9 of us and eventually there will be 75!

On the 22nd October 2014, I logged onto my camp america application and found I was READY TO PLACE! I had been imagining this for 2 years and I literally jumped right up and ran downstairs to tell my mum, (who had already guessed it was something to do with camp america.) I then watched all of the videos about being RTP and realised, I could now access the participants zone, again, somewhere I had wanted access to for a long time. I was so excited by how much information there was and how real this was all coming and how close my dream could be. I could now create my own blog, access the forum's, the information, find out what will happen next and find out all kinds of information, such as the different camp songs!

Now, it is a waiting game, I just have to wait until I get placed. Camp director's can now look at my application online and camp america try to get me placed. If I'm feeling this excited already, even at the prospect of going to america for summer 2015 to work with children, I can't even begin to imagine how amazing It will feel if/when I get placed.

I still have to make my application video and am planning on doing this over this half term and the IYLA scheme starts at the beginning of November, so that will keep me busy and prepare me for my place at camp, if I get it.

I'm sorry this had been such a long post, but this is what I have been up to lately, I am hoping to get back into this blogging again now and will continue to post my camp america and IYLA journey and will let you know all about it, I hope you are all well.

Keep smiling, see you soon lovelies

SUMMER!

It is now the summer holidays! *high fives*
I have finished my first year of college, it was hard but I am so pleased I worked through it and managed to get the grades needed to get into my second year of college! Now it's summer, I have been working a lot more as I need to save up as much £££ as possible because I am hoping that this time next summer, I will in working on a summer camp in America as part of the Camp America Program! Applications open in 4 days and I am beyond excited, I have registered and I'm just sitting tight waiting for that email to say that applications are open! Ever since I was little, I've always wanted to work with children and now I'm getting to follow that dream in a lot of aspects in my life and the chance to go and work in America (something I've also always wanted to do) with children just sounds like the perfect opportunity for me! I am hoping to become a general counsellor and work with a specific group of children and help them when moving to different activities, joining in with the activities and encouraging them and also living with them.
This summer I am spending a lot of my time working in order to earn money so that next summer, I can fulfill this dream of mine as well as then spending some time traveling around the US of A! Generally during this summer, I've also been spending a lot of time with my friends and family, catching up with some old friends and doing simple things that I enjoy that I haven't had as much time to do when I've been studying. I'm also going to the gym a lot more and spending more time enjoying the simple things.
Today I went into town to go to the bank for my mum and do some odd jobs, I had put 2 hours on my parking ticket but did not need it all so when I was leaving the car park, I lent my ticket to someone who was about to buy one, which made me feel really pleased that I had done something kind and helpful to someone else. So today I challenge you, to do something kind for someone, whether it's making a cup of tea or sending a nice message or telling someone they look good today, do something that may make a person smile or make their day better.

I hope you're all having a wonderful summer and enjoying the beautiful weather! Let me know what acts of kindness you do to brighten someone's day in the comments below, I would love to hear about it!

Keep smiling! xoxo

WAITING TO APPLY

Hello my lovelies,
I'm sorry that I haven't been able to post in a while, but I am back. Today I am filming a new YouTube video, which is all about camp america! While making these, I have been looking at the website for different bits of information and came across a new page: Register for Summer 2015! I literally burst with excited and immediately looked at it and searched throughout the page and straight away, I went to apply because I'd rather start my application early because I am beyond excited at the idea of being part of camp America next summer! So I started to register and then it came up with an alert telling me that I couldn't start my application until I'm 18, which means I have to wait another few months before I can apply! I'm just so excited to get started with it, eek! I guess it will be worth it once I finally do and then hopefully I will get placed!
I have also filmed a YouTube video about what camp america is, what roles you can be, what you pay, what you get, etc and that should be posted in the next few days, I will post a link once it is online!
I have the day off of work today and so I have been chilling, listening to music, I am particular fond of John Legend- All of me, Clean Bandit- Rather be and Bastille- Pompeii lately so go check them out if you want. I have also managed to film, blog and sort a few bits out. I saw a video this week which was posted on facebook and It gave me a lot of inspiration, here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=657441370970903 I highly recommend watching it, it is so motivational and inspirational.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

" A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step- confucious"
Just take that step or take that risk or do small things to get you through that day or to get to where you want to or to make yourself happy. You can reach your dreams, just keep trying.

Keep smiling lovelies, see you soon xoxo

The world of imagination

Hello you lovely people.

I went for a lovely little drive tonight with my brother to get some milk and little things for my mum and while shopping, I decided to have a peep into the book isle and found a few books that looked interesting, I brought two books and I have decided I should definitely be buying books a lot more, I've always had a passion for books and they interest me, so I think I may spend some time researching and spending time in book stores in order to dive into my imagination of the book. I love the way books transform you to another world, you're another character and you understand and feel the characters and the emotions and the way books can make you feel, books transform you and some people unfortunately don't understand this, they don't understand how precious books can be and for that, I feel deeply sorry for them.

The first book that I got is called Perfect by Rachel Joyce and has been rated The sunday Times Bestseller and the Daily Mail says "Brilliantly realized...grips the reader on every page." As well as The Times saying "You will end up recommending this wild, searching book to everyone you know."

The second book is called The Shock of the Fall and is by Nathan Filer. It is recognised as Costa's book of the year in 2013 and the Times says that it is "Deeply moving." The Daily Telegraph quotes "Bittersweet and wonderfully etched" as well as Joe Dunthorne quoting "Terrific. Engaging, funny and inventive." Jo Brand says " Dark, touching, sweet and funny and beautifully written."

I am really looking forward to reading these books and I have the day off tomorrow from work so I think I may spend my day by starting to read one of these books, scratch that, I am going to start reading in bed, because I am far too tempted. I may write a book review on these for you guys, would you like that, please comment if you would.
Stay fabulous and keep smiling xoxo

Diving into the coursework!

Woohayy, IT'S FINALLY THE EASTER HOLIDAYS!

So today has been my day off and I have spent the day relaxing as it's been my first day without work or college or having to do some sort of commitment for the past few weeks. I spent my day by watching one tree hill, which is one of my current obsessions at the moment, I have previously watched all of the episodes but I have been re-watching all the series because why not. I also watched some of my favourite youtubers and managed to edit and upload my first vlog, which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2y54G1b_mzQ It would really mean a lot to me if you guys could check it out, feel free to subscribe to my channel, like the video and comment on any suggestions of video's you'd like me to do. I'm new to the youtube and blogging community so would love any ideas you guys have for me to do so I can try different things.
I am sorry that I have not been able to post recently but I have been quite busy these past few days, as you know I went to see You me at six last week which was absolutely awesome, I will be posting about this at some point once I have uploaded pictures, etc to my computer. Since then I went out for a meal for my best friend's birthday and have been working. This evening I decided I needed to make a plan for myself on my coursework and getting bits done over the Easter holidays. I am planning to spend at least an hour every day doing some coursework so that when I go back to college I will A) Hopefully be up to date. B) Won't have to freak out about all the work I need to do and C) Will be able to focus on college and the rest of the coursework that I need to get done for deadlines.
I started to file all of the coursework so that it is neat and far more accessible as it was starting to create a pile and I know when I go back, it will only increase so it ended up with a mass of sheets everywhere all over my bedroom floor as shown below!

Please excuse the Winnie the pooh duvet, I am a big disney fan and I've had the duvet since I was younger and I love it.
I have also realised that, I ONLY HAVE AROUND 10 WEEKS LEFT OF COLLEGE FOR THIS YEAR! This has just made me far more focused to try to do well and I know that this hard work is only for a short amount of time! I know we can all do this guys, we just have to work hard and then relax and have a fabulous summer, it'll all be worth it when we get the grades!

I hope you're all okay my lovelies, see you soon, keep smiling those wonderful smiles of yours! xoxo

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 17

We humans have lost the wisdom of genuinely resting and relaxing. We worry too much. We don't allow our bodies to heal, and we don't allow our minds and hearts to heal.- Thich Nhat Hanh

I think this is incredible true, everyone needs time to themselves, look after yourselves, keeping yourselves safe and fresh and having time to relax and do things that you want too, save time for that book you want to read or that program you want to watch or that face mask you want to try, you deserve it! xox

I AM BACK

Howdy how! Hello! Hiya! Bonjour! (just thought I'd be a bit versatile for you guys)

I have been absent for a few days and haven't been able to post as I have been working and had some plans and haven't been able to get time to fit in a post for you lovelies!

I am going to try to update every day with your QUOTE A DAY posts and will hopefully be doing a normal post on other topics!

If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know so I can do them/ write about them and feel free to drop me a message or suggestion for my youtube videos, I have not been able to post my second video yet because I am so busy at the moment but I am going to try my hardest to get that up for you guys as soon as possible!

I have so many posts planned for you guys so please keep looking out!
I hope you're all having a wonderful week and stay fabulous!

lots of love,
Katie

QUOTE OF THE DAY- DAY 16

Smiling Is Infectious -Author Unknown
Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner
and someone saw my grin.
When he smiled I realized
I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,
then I realized its worth.
A single smile, just like mine
could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don't leave it undetected.
Let's start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!

This isn't so much a quote but I just love this poem, it just shows how important a smile can be so my task for you is to smile at someone today, or try to smile at someone everyday, you never know how much a smile can mean, you could make someone's day! xx

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 15

I couldn't do post the qupte of the day last night as I had lots of work to do but here is today's :)

It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.Aristotle Onassis
There is always a light in the tunnel, you just have to find it!

Revision Tips

Hey lovelies! I hope you’re all having a lovely day/ I hope you have a lovely day! (which ever applies to you because of time zones.)
During this time of the year and the next few months, a lot of people have exams over the next few weeks, whether these be GCSE’s, A level’s or possibly even exams at university. Exams are extremely stressful so it is important to prepare for them, here is a few tips on how to prepare and revise:
  • Make sure you’re in a quiet area where you won’t be disturbed and that you can focus on work without too many distractions.
  •  Make sure you take regular breaks, at least every 30 minutes or so, have a drink and possibly a snack.
  • Reward yourself, something I did during my GCSE’s was that every time I finished a piece of revision that I needed to do, I’d then reward yourself with a treat or 5 minutes talking to a friend or something like this.
  • Spread your work load out, make sure you still have some social time and time to yourself to do the things you want, something I’ve learned is that it is best to do 1 or 2 hours of work a night rather than cram it all in the night before as you just stress yourself even more.
  • You could make a revision guide, plan which subject work you’re going to do each night or just leave a revision slot and do whichever work needs to be done first and leave time for yourself as well, fit your work around any existing plans but make sure you leave enough time to do the work.
  • Prepare yourself for the exams, make sure you understand the questions that may come up and what you need to do for the exam and do practice papers and ask your teacher what you did wrong if you don’t understand.
  •  Make sure you have all your equipment ready for the exams and for revision.
  •  Try to relax when revising, you could have quiet music on but make sure it is not distracting you from the work.
  • Use different resources, bite size is a good site for people studying for their GCSE’s. Make use of websites and resources that teachers give you. Try different revision techniques, for example, mind maps, past papers, a booklet, video etc. This will help to reinforce the information into your brain J
  • Turn your phone off or try not to use it while you’re revising, same goes for social networking, like Facebook, twitter, tumblr and turn your TV off. Things like this distract you and then you procrastinate (put off) the work which will only mean that you’ll have more to do later on.
I hope these tips and advice help you to focus on your exams, exams are only for a short while and once you’ve completed them, you’ll be able to do things for yourself, you just need to think positively and get through them and then when you get the results, you know you will have put the best you can into the work! Good luck!

Feel free to comment with other tips you have or how you get on, I would love to here! I have lots more idea’s like this so if you like this kind of post, please let me know!xx

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 14

It's like driving a car at night. You never see further than your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.- E. L. Doctorow

You can't always see what is going to happen in the future but you just need to focus on what is happening right now.
I purposely chose a quote relating to driving today as I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST this morning and I am so pleased! Think it will definitely be a bit nerve racking driving on my own for the first few weeks but am so glad that I passed today!

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 13

If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.- Henry Ford

You can achieve whatever you set your mind too, if you believe that you can't do something then you won't be able to do it, think positively and try!

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 12

A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.- William Arthur Ward

Sorry I couldn't post yesterday guys but here is a post for yesterday and I will upload today's in a minute! I would also like to let you know that I cannot post the youtube video tonight as I have been extremely busy this week and so I will post it whenever I can sometime this week hopefully! <3

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 11

Don't wait around for other people to be happy for you. Any happiness you get you've got to make yourself.- Alice Walker

It is so important for you to make yourself happy, do things for yourself, take some "me" time, whether it be having a bath or spa time with yourself or watching a film in PJ's with a treat or buying that special treat for yourself once in a while. It's important that you think about your happiness before other people's because you need to care for yourself, however It is important to help other people and think about their feelings as well. Don't wait for other people to make you feel happy, of course this is a good thing when friends can cheer you up but you need to care for yourself because you are the person who will always be there.

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 10

Truth is everybody is going to hurt you: you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.- Bob Marley

I have found over the past 17 years of my life that there is always some people who just don't like you or want to hurt you and you just have to ignore them and get on with your life because they are not worth it, focus on the people who are always there for you, who are trustworthy towards you and care about you and your feelings, people who are good friends because those are the people who matter, those are the people who are there during the good and the bad times.

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 9

If you can dream it, you can do it- Walt Disney

I am currently looking at universities as I need to start going to open days and have to apply this year! It's a slightly scary (actually, it's very scary) but I am so excited to try new things, to be able to hopefully learn what I need to in order to achieve my dream, which is to be a primary school teacher. I know that it will be hard work and someone told me today that teaching is not just a job, it's a lifestyle but I am so determined and if you believe you can do something, reach for the stars with both hands and don't let it go, you can do it, just work hard and you will get there!

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 8

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.- Nelson Mandela

I know some of you reading this may have exams soon or coursework and it may be really hard now but work hard and it will be worth it, you guys can do it, keep going lovelies!

QUOTE A DAY-DAY 7

In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It goes on.- Robert Frost

If you're going through a hard time at the moment, just remember however much you don't believe this now, things will get better. If you've got lots of coursework to do or are studying for exams, work the hardest you can because they'll be over soon and you will be so happy if you come out with the grades you want, work to achieve what you dream about. Once you're exams are over, life will still continue, once that coursework is finished, life will still continue and you can do things that you want knowing that you tried your hardest and worked the best you could.

QUOTE A DAY-DAY 6

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 5/ GIVING

No one has ever become poor by giving.”-Anne Frank, diary of Anne Frank
This is such an important quote, I saw it a few days ago and decided I had to make a post about it. I've recently been watching videos about the youtube boy band, for any of you who didn't know, Marcus Butler, ThatcherJoe, Jim Chapman, Casper and PointlessBlog who all have youtube videos (you should check them out)  have come together with comic relief to make a music video for sports relief. Their aim is to raise £50,000 before they release the video. I think what they're trying to do for other people is so inspiring. Just texting and giving one pound can save a child's life, most of us live our daily life having water available when we want it, however some people have to walk miles just to get some water which may not even be safe so please donate anything you, you can make a difference. I have included how to text sport relief to raise money through the boyband, however there are lots of other methods of donating in which I will also leave the link. I am also going to leave a link to the youtube video which is called The Official Youtube Boy Band and it explains just exactly what they're trying to do.
If you're in the UK, text BOYBAND to 70011, Texts cost £1 plus your standard network message charge, £1 per text goes to Sport Relief. You must be 16 or over and please ask the bill payers permission
For full terms and conditions and more information go to: http://www.sportrelief.com/terms
http://www.sportrelief.com/                   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxAHd-eApiw

It is also just to remember that the word "giving" does not just mean giving money. Giving could mean lending a helping hand, helping an elderly person to cross the road or helping them to carry shopping, It could be volunteering at your local school or charity shop or even at a local sports club/activity club, such as scouts. You may help out your family or friends by being there for a chat or helping them with a problem or helping them to clean the house or wash the car. You may want to help the environment by thinking about your actions, such as recycling your plastics and glass so that these materials can be re-used, you could also take up doing some gardening to help the pollution going into our air and it will also brighten up your garden and you could even start to grow your own crops or grow some lovely flowers or plants just make you smile or give you something to do which may bring such a sense or reward for you.

Giving doesn't always mean in the form of money, it is just giving to someone else and sometimes just smiling at another person may give them a positive hope and make their day. It doesn't always cost to give something so I am going to set myself a challenge which is: To give something to others every day. This may be something as small as doing the dishes or listening to a friend, just something which may make someone's day a little bit better and it doesn't always have to cost anything.

Are you doing anything for sports relief or to raise money for charity?

Have you given/ are you giving anything at the moment?
Speak to you soon

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 4

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.- Dr Seuss

I adore this quote because it just reminds you to think positively about all the things that have happened and remember that you enjoyed them and wanted them at the time so you need to smile because they happened and think about the future and do things that you want to do.

R.I.P

One of my favourite teacher's passed away last year, she was in a car accident and everyone was so shocked and upset because of the loss. She was a wonderful, fantastic lady who was teaching me my Graphics GCSE, she was more than just a teacher, she was a friend and was one of the loveliest people I have ever met. It was really hard for me when she passed as I just could not stopping thinking about her, she was a teacher you could talk to about your problems and she had often been there to listen to me. I worked so hard for my graphics exam and just wanted to do well to show how great of a teacher she was, I was so pleased when I got my GCSE's. I just thought about how proud she would be of me and all of our class.

Today is your birthday Miss and everyone misses you so much, you will never be forgotten, you're always in my thoughts and my thoughts go out to your family. I love you Miss, R.I. P.

QUOTE A DAY- DAY 3

A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work. - Colin Powell

I like this quote as it explains that you have to work to get towards you dreams and you will get there in the end, you just have to keep working at it and reach for your dream. Keep doing  your best and you can succeed in the end!

QUOTE OF THE DAY- DAY 2

Change your thoughts and you change your world.- Norman Vincent Peale

I love this quote, I recently found it and it's basically expressing that you control your world, if you want someone to change within yourself, you make it happen.

Camp America!

Camp America is a program for people who are 18+ to work at a summer camp in the USA for around 6/8 weeks and then you have the opportunity to travel for 30 days before travelling home. I am so determined to be part of this program next summer in 2015. It looks incredible, I absolutely love working with children and I would love to travel so I think it will be perfect for me, I really want to visit America so getting to live there for 3 months would be such an amazing experience for me.
The main role I would love to become is a general counsellor, where you go around with the children and spend time with them while joining in and helping them with activities, however just going to camp in itself and working there would be great so I'm not too fussed.
I've been researching different camps for months now and I have a few favourites, although some of them don't hire 18 year olds so I'd have to wait if I want to go to those ons.
I literally cannot wait to apply and hopefully get placed, eek!
